After the Assessment

After the Assessment

What happens next?

1. Review of Findings

all relevant clinical, parent and school information is considered; autism assessments include multidisciplinary review.

2. Feedback Appointment

findings, diagnostic criteria, strengths, difficulties and recommended next steps are explained, with time for questions.

3. Comprehensive Written Report

includes relevant developmental/clinical information, parent and school information, findings, conclusion, strengths, difficulties and practical recommendations.

4. Recommendations & Next Steps

may cover education, communication/social development, attention/organisation, emotional wellbeing, routines/independence and relevant services.
Parents may share the report with their child's GP, school or other professionals at their discretion.

ADHD medication

The current clinic service is diagnostic and does not include ADHD medication prescribing or ongoing medication management. Where appropriate, the report may recommend discussing management options with the child’s GP or relevant service.

Understanding the Diagnostic Outcome

The purpose of the assessment is to reach an independent clinical conclusion based on all the available information. An assessment does not guarantee a diagnosis of autism or ADHD.

Following an assessment, the conclusion may be that your child meets the diagnostic criteria for autism, ADHD, both conditions, or neither.

If your child does not meet the diagnostic criteria, we will explain the clinical reasoning during the feedback appointment and document the findings clearly in the written report.

We will still identify your child’s strengths and areas of difficulty and, where appropriate, recommend support, next steps or other assessments that may be helpful.

Parents will have an opportunity to ask questions and discuss the findings. If you remain concerned or disagree with the conclusion, you are free to seek an independent second opinion.
